Modi-Trump to enhance Global Comprehensive Strategic Partnership
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be the fourth head of state or government that US President Donald Trump has invited since being sworn in on 20 January 2025. The Modi-Trump meetings with their top aides on February 12-13 will enhance the global comprehensive strategic partnership. On their agenda is not only geo-strategic ties but also trade, technology transfer, defense, immigration and more. President Trump’s second term came soon after PM Modi’s third. They have built a strong camaraderie, and political pundits see them moving forward quickly on a whole of common agenda. It must be noted that Indian External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar represented the Prime Minister at the inauguration ceremony of Trump. But, more importantly, Jaishankar met all key Trump aides soon after the swearing in. The Modi-Trump meeting agenda is said to have been discussed and decided during the visit. USA values the relationship with India as it is one of the most favoured destination for Indian students for higher education. Indians are also spending a lot of money in travel and tourism to USA. Another big point cementing Indo-US ties is the nearly 5 million Indian Americans, seen as one of the most successful and well assimilated communities in the USA.
