‘Sannati should be the most preferred destination of world heritage tourism’
The ancient Buddhist site at Sannati should have been one of the most sought-after destinations for foreign heritage tourism, according to journalist and research scholar Harshakumar Kugwe, who has expressed dissatisfaction with the lack of interest displayed by successive administrations in promoting heritage tourism in India. About 70 years ago, the ancient Buddhist site at Kanaganahalli, near Sannati, was discovered. According to the inscriptions, the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) found a sculpture of Asoka, the only surviving figure of the Mauryan ruler, and Adholoka Maha Chaitya (the Great Stupa of the Netherworlds) during its excavations, he said.
